Lip Balm for Under Eyes: The Viral Concealer Hack

The secret to flawlessly smooth under eyes? Lip balm! If you haven’t yet seen the viral concealer hack from JLO’s makeup artist, Scott Barnes, we’re here to fill you in. His tip: before concealer, apply lip balm under the eyes for super smooth, seamless under eyes and concealer that doesn’t crease or budge.

Well, if we’re taking makeup tips from anyone, it’s Mr. Barnes – the OG glow-giver and renowned MUA behind JLO’s never-miss glam.

Lip Balm for Under Eyes: The Viral Concealer Hack

Why it works

Unlike creams and lotions that settle into fine lines, a lip balm’s rich texture smooths over those tiny crevices, forming the perfect canvas for your concealer. Its slightly sticky nature doubles as a hydrating primer, keeping your concealer firmly in place—no slipping, no creasing, just stunningly even coverage all day long.

How to try it out:

  1. Apply a thin layer of lip balm under the eyes and on the lids for extra hydration
  2. Apply concealer overtop and blend with your fingers or a brush
  3. Voila: super smooth under eyes that won’t crease, cake, or settle into fine lines

Bonus: Apply on the smile lines around the mouth to create a smooth canvas for makeup or just to add a hydrating, smoothing boost to the area.

And if you’re going au naturel, apply lip balm around the eyes sans makeup for an ultra-hydrated, glowified under eye area that costs way less (and works better) than eye cream.

Color correcting with tinted lip balm

Along with all the skin smoothing, concealer-perfecting benefits, you can use a pink or salmon toned lip balm like our Pink Grapefruit Tinted Lip Balm to color-correct dark under eyes and discoloration.

Why this works: salmon, pink, and peach cancel out the blueish undertones on dark under eyes – hello multitasking magic!

Which lip balms can be used under the eyes?

Remember, not all lip balms are created equally. Since you’re applying your lip balm near the delicate eye area, you want to be extra conscious of using gentle, hydrating, non-toxic ingredients. Avoid synthetic fragrance of any kind, alcohols, salicylic acid, and any harsh chemicals. Stay away from minty balms as well which can irritate the eye area.
